Our 7th, 8th, and 9th graders are preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation in October 2009.

   The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains:

Preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit … in order to be more capable of assuming apostolic responsibilities of Christian Life. (CCC# 1309)

   In preparation for the Sacrament, we are asking our candidates to enter into an intense program of Spiritual Formation, Experiences in Worship, Intellectual Development, and Service in order to gain a 'lively familiarity" with the action of the Spirit in their lives. During this period of preparation, we are asking parents, sponsors, and the families of the candidates to join them in exploring the riches of the Catholic faith.

   To gain the recommendation of the pastor to the bishop for the sacrament, each candidate will prepare a "Confirmation Portfolio" which will be presented during a one-on-one interview near the end of the preparation process. This portfolio will catalogue the experiences of the preparation year and help the candidate focus on how he or she has grown in preparation for Confirmation. The experiences of the preparation program are intended to help the candidate see how mature Catholics live, pray, and serve others in the larger community.
